[cgpa_to_percentage]
If you are a student, you must have come across the terms CGPA and Percentage. Sometimes colleges, schools, or companies ask for marks in percentage, while your mark sheet shows CGPA. This can feel confusing. But don’t worry! In this article, I’ll explain everything in very simple language so you can easily convert your CGPA into Percentage.
What is CGPA?
CGPA stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average.
It is a grading system used in schools and colleges to show your overall academic performance. Instead of showing marks directly, it shows points (like 6.5, 7.2, 8.3, etc.).
- CGPA scale: Usually out of 10 (some universities may use 4).
- Example: If your CGPA is 7.5, it means your performance is good, but not the absolute maximum.
What is Percentage?
Percentage is the most common way of showing marks.
It simply means marks out of 100.
- Example: If you scored 75 out of 100, your percentage is 75%.
Many universities, jobs, or competitive exams ask for percentage instead of CGPA. That’s why students often need conversion.
CGPA to Percentage Conversion Formula
Most universities follow a simple formula:
Percentage (%) = CGPA × 9.5
👉 Example 1: If your CGPA is 7.8
Percentage = 7.8 × 9.5 = 74.1%
👉 Example 2: If your CGPA is 6.5
Percentage = 6.5 × 9.5 = 61.75%
👉 Example 3: If your CGPA is 9.2
Percentage = 9.2 × 9.5 = 87.4%
That’s it! Just multiply your CGPA by 9.5 and you get your percentage.
Why Multiply with 9.5?
You might wonder: why 9.5?
This value was set after analyzing average student performance in board exams (like CBSE). On average, a CGPA of 1 equals about 9.5% marks. So, this formula was made to give a fair conversion.
